• Question: How has capoeira changed your life? - cubdiscovery-deactivated2012020
  • Answer:

Damn, what a good question. There is so much, I don’t even know where or how to begin.  Simply, I guess :)

I would say primarily that capoeira has made me a stronger person.  Not only does it train my body to move in beautiful, secksy and powerful ways, it teaches me lessons that I would not have learned elsewhere.  Beyond the dance, the fight, the music, the philosophy, capoeira has given me a rare confidence.  I find that my successes and failures in the roda are applicable outside the roda (in real life) as well…more so in fact.

I think like a capoeirista.  At least, I feel that I think like a capoeirista.  I recognize my learning is a lifelong process, and there will always be more to learn.  Capoeira is not just about teaching people about their own bodies.  It is about relationships with other people.

We play the jogo with people.  We train with people.  We learn how to overcome ourselves to do greater things.  Be it a new bitchin’ aerial kick flip, how to read your opponent in the game, or even a new song lyric, capoeira presents so many opportunities to grow as a person.
