bearthug replied to your post: What are the different colors of the cordão? And what is required to advance? The Raw one looks just like the white one…. Isn’t that somethin’?  They are indeed similar, but the branco is a pure white, as if it were* bleached white.  The crua is just the raw cord from the roll as it is purchased; nothing is done to the crua. *there is that conditional...

Occupy Wall Street March: Don't Wait. Reblog This...
rosinhabela: My name is Kelly Schomburg, I’m the girl with the red hair in these pictures. I was protesting at the Occupy Wall Street march yesterday when I and several other women were sprayed with mace and subsequently arrested. Many have already seen the video, which has been spreading like wildfire over twitter, Facebook, tumblr, and other video feeds, along with hundreds of other photos...

Maculelê is one of the traditional Brazilian dances capoeiristas perform during batizado.  It is a stick fighting dance that progresses to using facão, machetes. Here, I perform maculelê with my grupo, grass skirt and everything. I had one day to learn the routine.  Turns out, I was the replacement for the replacement, who sprained his ankle the day before the performance. Thank goodness I...

Being away for so long (7 or 8 years), I got busted back to crua when I came back. Just one more rank to go, then I’ll be where I used to be.  Woot woot.

beckyc replied to your photo: My one and only injury from Batizado this past… Ouch. Hate it when that happens. Yeah, it bled a lot and swelled a good deal, but I was still able to tie my shoes.  So, no broken fingers!

This past weekend was the Batizado for Axé Capoeira Kansas City.  A long weekend of 4 to 6 hour workshops followed by the capoeira ceremony, the event called Batizado (baptism).  If you deserve it, this is where a capoeirista can receive a promotion and a higher cordão. I was surprised and excited to be up for promotion.  Here, I play with Professor Tigrão from Axé Capoeira Calgary for my azul...
